About Us
Jam and Jay began shaping the vision of Gingersnap Bali in 2006. By 2012, they had refined its identity to fully express the brand’s essence.
At the time, Jay was a dancer of sacred Balinese performances in Hindu temples, drawn to all forms of art and self-expression. Jam, meanwhile, had been running his own clothing brand in France for nearly a decade, with collections sold in a boutique on Rue Étienne Marcel in Paris and on popular tourist islands like Belle-Île, Île de Ré, and the Rhuys Peninsula. Inspired by his creative journey, Jam expanded his vision by introducing a streetwear-inspired line that was urban, modern, and boldly avant-garde.
Jay brings fluidity and sensuality to the designs, infusing them with details born of his vivid imagination—colored piping on dark garments, hand-sewn finishing touches, or pocket lapels crafted from luxurious boiled wool sourced from Italy. His contributions lend the collections a distinct allure.
Together, Jam and Jay work exclusively with natural fabrics—linen, cotton, rayon, jersey, and silk—ensuring each piece is both timeless and authentic.
Their creative energy is fueled by street culture and their shared passion for travel. As explorers of global style, they uncover unique inspirations in the hidden corners of bustling cities and return with artisanal accessories to enrich their collections. This fusion of influences makes each piece one of a kind.
The Gingersnap men’s collection is intergenerational, blending sophistication with everyday ease. The Gingersnap man is a dandy adventurer—laid-back but charismatic, drawn to stylish places that retain their soul. He’s the kind of person you’d spot crossing Singapore’s river on a ferry or sipping coffee on a Parisian terrace in Rue Beaubourg. He lives for the moment, savoring life’s simple pleasures. This man appreciates fine materials like natural linen and raw vintage leather, which give him a carefree, effortless elegance—barefoot in spirit, even when he’s wearing rugged leather boots.
The Gingersnap woman, on the other hand, is free-spirited and naturally elegant, exuding a quiet confidence that rejects the need for sophistication. She embraces loose, flowing silhouettes that let her move freely, whether she’s wearing wide-leg pants or an evening dress. She loves the feel of the pavement under her leather-heeled sandals as she explores the world. She travels and laughs easily, flipping through magazines for hours in a bookstore in Istanbul or sipping iced tea at a café in Saint-Pierre, shaded by a red umbrella, with her favorite newspaper, “Le Canard Enchaîné”, in hand. She strives to stand out, favoring light fabrics she can wrap herself in for an added touch of elegance in the evening. An intellectual with a subtle mix of feminine charm, chic nonchalance, and a rebellious edge, she refuses to conform to the idea of being a Barbie.
In essence, Gingersnap Bali is more than a fashion statement—it’s a state of being, an exquisite way of life.
